How to Be Effectively Creative Every Day
Creative people make the best artists, product designers, problem solvers and entrepreneurs!
If you’re more creative than others, chances are you will be much more successful in your field than your peers.
However, one thing that most creative people struggle with is the lack of consistency.
Some days they will be “on”, creating something fabulous, and other days they will struggle to write two words.
For the competitor in the long game, only being creative doesn’t cut it; they need to be effective as well. To be “effectively creative”, you need three things:
Competence
Energy/Drive
Inspiration
Creativity thrives on inspiration, and it is when there is a lack of it that the artist in you feels at their lowest.
The biggest killer of creativity is lack of inspiration.
If you are inspired but don’t have the energy to work, you will not get anything done.
If you are inspired and full of energy but don’t know the “how” of what you need to do, you will not either not be able to produce anything of value or produce something that is of poor quality.
So, if you could create a routine that fills you with inspiration and energy every morning and helps you get better at your craft every day, you can easily have an “effectively creative” day, every day.
Keep it simple, though. Something that you can do on most days, even if you are travelling.
Here is my routine to give you some ideas:
For inspiration, I spend some time every morning observing nature. I live very close to a forest so there are a lot of birds, animals and insects that make their way into our neighbourhood. I also read almost every morning.
For energy, I stretch, exercise and have a light breakfast every morning. My morning workouts usually only last 15-20 minutes and involve bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, lunges, etc. This allows me to do them anywhere I am.
For competence, I analyze my mistakes and knowledge gaps and try to learn something that will fill those gaps every day. Bit by bit, and with consistency, this helps me recreate myself every 6 months.
It’s not rocket science, and you don’t need to be an expert to be good at this.
Just do the basics really, really well, and everything else will take care of itself.
That’s all for today. Until next time!
